Justice Minister Tzipi Livni believes that the day a national referendum will be held to ratify a peace agreement with the PA (Palestinian Authority) involving land concessions will be national holiday. A referendum will be required if such an agreement is signed between Israel and the PA as it was passed in a preliminary reading in the previous Knesset.
The matter was discussed by the Ministerial Law Committee on Sunday 28 Kislev 5774, based on the bill passed into law in the previous Knesset. The bill to make it a day off will now move to a special committee headed by MK Likud/Beitenu) Yariv Levin and then it must be approved in Knesset in its final readings.
If passed in Knesset it will become part of the nation’s Basic Law, which functions as Israel’s constitution.
