Former Israel Air Force Commander Avihu Bin-Nun told the media that after 22 years, the time has come to declare air force navigator Ron Arad among those soldiers whom are “dead and their burial location remains unknown”.
Bin-Nun at one time stood at the helm of the “Born Free” organization which offered a reward for credible information on Arad, who fell into captivity over Lebanon in October 1986. Bin-Nun decided to leave his post after realizing that even the $10 million reward offered for information on Arad did not yield results.
The former commander stated that all avenues have been exhausted and it is time to come to this realization and recognize the signs and information that all point to the fact that the former airman is no longer among the living.

If the air force declares him dead is that good enough to be matir his egunah?
Declaring someone dead is in the purview of halacha, not a political decision.
