The families of 12 Iranian Jews are petitioning the Supreme Court on Monday morning against Sunday’s cabinet decision to approve the prisoner exchange deal with Hizbullah.

In actuality, the petitioners are directing their opposition to one portion of the agreement, Israel’s commitment to provide Hizbullah with information regarding four Iranian diplomats who disappeared in Lebanon in 1982.

The four, Ahmad Motevaselian, Seyed Mohsen Mousavi, Taghi Rastegar Moghadam and Kazem Akhavan, were believe to have been abducted during the invasion of Lebanon on July 4, 1982. They are presumed to be dead.

According to Shurat HaDin’s Nitzana Darshan-Leitner, representing the families, they are calling upon the cabinet to comply with a Supreme Court ruling of two years ago which compels the Government of Israel to do its utmost to uncover the story regarding 12 Iranian Jews who disappeared in the 1990s. They feel this is the opportunity since the government sees fit to provide information to Hizbullah which will be passed to Iran.

In a related event, Meir Indor, who heads the Almagor terror victims’ organization, is contemplating a petition to the high court against the cabinet decision as well. According to Almagor officials, in discussions with cabinet ministers during recent weeks, they were promised if it is learned that the soldiers are dead ahead of a vote, they would vote against it. Indor feels that government ministers may not go back on their word, prompting him to consider filing with the high court as a result.
