It was a difficult Shabbos for Israel Police as Bedouins in the Negev and elsewhere held violent protests against the so-called Prawer-Begin Plan, which calls to resettle that community in new Negev communities. The plan is rejected by Bedouin leaders.
Violent protests were held on Shabbos in the Negev, Haifa, Tira, Taibeh, eastern Yerushalayim, and Kalansua as police were attacked with stones amid shouts against the government and the plan. Tires were burned to block roadways and bottles and other objects were hurled at police too. At least 11 policemen sustained light injuries and at least 20 protesters were arrested.
One Yassam commando policeman was stabbed in his leg by a protestor. Israel Police Coastal District Chief Chaggai Dotan was among those sustaining light injuries as a result of the stone-throwing.
MK (Hadash) Dan Hanin is calling upon the government to freeze the Prawer-Begin Plan.
As the Knesset prepares to pass the plan into law with second and third readings in the parliament, Israel’s Bedouin community is up in arms and apparently unwilling to accept this as a fait accompli.
While the cabinet praises the plan, which it views as a just settlement to the lingering issue of settling the Bedouin community in the Negev, Bedouin leaders see an entirely difficult picture, one that represents government expropriation of their ancestral land.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Motzei Shabbos Chanukah 5774 spoke with Homeland Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich and Israel Police Chief Yochanan Danino regarding the Bedouin violence that took place over Shabbos.
He praised the police deployment and its determined action against the demonstrators. “We will treat offenders to the fullest extent of the law and will not tolerate such disturbances. We have – and will have – no tolerance for those who break the law. Attempts by a loud and violent minority to deny a better future to a large and broad population are grave. We will continue to advance the law for a better future for all residents of the Negev,” the prime minister said.

Remember that the Bedouin are allied with the zionists against the Palestiniana (e.g. most of their men serve in the IDF). This is how the Israelis treat their friends.
I feel a quote from Reagan is in place for u here, akuperma: “There you go again.. ” You make statements of fabrication as though they are documentable truth, to further your narrow agenda. Everyone already knows your true colors anyway by now., its getting tired. for such an anti-zionist, why are you so glued to this website, our any website for that matter? Bittul Torah!
Let’s just see if this crazy govt will stay as stubborn on enforcing this issue as they were against gush katif…
To akuperma: Don’t be kafoy tova. The IDF does so much for klal yisroel. If you don’t want to support tzahal, don’t support them. However, being so rabidly kufoy tov, has no place on this website, or any website for that matter.
