While the nation waits in anticipation to see the outcome of Sunday’s weekly cabinet meeting, one cannot help but notice the pain of the wives, Karnit Goldwasser and Tami Arad; with the latter being an aguna since air force navigator Major Ron Arad fell into captivity in October 1986.
In an ironic chain of events, if the cabinet votes on Sunday to release Samir Kuntar to obtain the release of Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, who are presumed to be dead, then in essence, the government has lost its last ‘bargaining chip’ towards one day securing the release of Ron Arad.
In essence, releasing one of these women from their status of aguna all but seals the fate of the second, perhaps forever chas v’sholom.
According to the information available today, there is a chance that Arad is still alive and as such, Tami Arad remains in her agnua state, compelled to continue waiting, praying and hoping that one day, Ron will return home.
Nevertheless, the Arad family has been very supportive as efforts continue to choreograph the release of soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, as well as Gilad Shalit from Hamas captivity, well-aware that if the current windows of opportunity are missed, the families may suffer the fate.

wow there is just much going on hope it turns out good.
Obviously, there’s no happy outcome here. My heart goes out to the families of these brave men. Their wives deserve a levaya, Chas V’sholom, but until that day comes we hope & pray every day for the men’s happy release from captivity.
It never ceases to amaze me that despite all the problems in the government & their attitude to Torah & Halacha, the sanctity of Jewish lives & bodies remains sacrosanct. There IS hope, after all.
