Mofaz Undecided – Leaning Towards Supporting Hizbullah Deal

Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz, a former IDF chief of staff and defense minister, remains undecided regarding the prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hizbullah.

The proposed plan is expected to be presented to the cabinet at the Sunday morning weekly cabinet meeting, with signals from ministers indicating it will pass with at least 18 ministers voting in favor.

To date, Mofaz has shown opposition or uncertainty to the plan, but as support is increasing among the security and intelligence establishment, it appears Mofaz may also vote in favor.

He told reporters that on Sunday, he will hear the briefing from the experts, officials from the Mossad and ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) and he will then make his decision based on hard facts. He explained while emotions are running high, this is not an emotional decision, but one that must be based on weighing facts in the case.

Mofaz added that “we must bring the soldiers home,” adding that “if the day comes when soldiers feel were are abandoning them, then they will abandon us and I will never permit this to happen.”
