During a meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Economic Affairs on Monday 22 Kislev 5774, the representative of the Ministry of Transportation signaled steps are being taken to issue a magnetic license in the coming months to foreigners in Israel, to accommodate them for the duration of their stay. This is part of an effort to facilitate the process of a foreigner obtaining a license and eliminating the need to renew the license every six months.
This was in response to a request from MK Uri Maklev on behalf of foreigners, which includes many avreichim spending a number of years in Eretz Yisrael.
Tzion Mizrachi, a senior Ministry of Transportation official told Maklev a number of weeks ago that steps were being taken to facilitate the process for a foreign visitor wishing to obtain a license in Israel.

In the past Israel accepted American licenses (with the international drivers license, which didn’t require a test). If tourists will need to pass an Israeli licensing exam, it would be much worse than being able to use an American license. What’s going on?
