Calling himself “conservative” on public safety, NYC Mayor-elect Eric Adams said Sunday that he wants to end mask mandates in school upon becoming mayor, saying he’s concerned that masks are inhibiting children from engaging in social interactions and making friends.
“If we can find a safe way to do it, I look forward to getting rid of the mask,” Adams told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “Part of the socialization of a child is that smile. Not being able to see the smiles of our children has a major impact.”
“But it must be done with the science so we don’t go back to closing our city down,” Adams added.
Adams’ comments stand in stark contrast to current Mayor Bill de Blasio, who said just this past Thursday that there is no end in sight for the forced masking of children in schools.
“I would say, as a general view, that out of an abundance of caution, I would keep the masks in place, at least in the short term because they’ve really worked, because the kids have adapted to them well, the adults have adapted to them well,” de Blasio said.

The solution is simple:
If 100% of the parent body and 100% of the school staff were vaccinated, there would be no need to mask or vaccinate the children.
Masks are nothing but an attempt to promote the useless, unsafe, insufficiently tested and ‘idolatrously golden covid shot’.
Reasonable. Thank G d. And we dont need the vaccines. Shld be optional. Too many vaccinated people tested positive lately for COVID. Its too much garbage injected in our veins with questionable results. Shld be an individual decision not a mandate ever.
Hey there Mr. Mayor-elect, that’s only if Herr Warren Wilhelm Jr. doesn’t sign a clause barring any such attempt. He’s not beyond that.
@silentmoishe. How does having all kids and parents vaccinated allow for no masks on school kids? There is no science to what you’re saying. Someone can get Covid walking out the door, walking down the the sidewalk, bus driver, etc…could be from anyone…EVEN from vaccinated people. Regardless of anyone’s vaccination status, school age kids, especially younger ones, absolutely should not be wearing masks all day in school. The negative effects of breathing in their own carbon all day thru dirty masks, friends and teachers not being able to fully socialize and communicate, etc. all outweigh the very slim chance a kid will contract or give Covid to another student. The numbers don’t lie.
Those against the vaccine, are apparently pro people getting a virus that replicates and mutates in your body and has clearly caused significant damage and death, over a vaccine that works in a well understood manner and does not have the ability to mutate or replicate and the immune response is targeted and limited.
I mean seriously, at this time with all the data out there supporting the safety and efficacy of the vaccine, if you are still ranting about it being useless, unsafe, and insufficiently tested, you sound insane. But sure, go find some discredited study or someone spouting concerns made up on the thinnest things to convince yourself you are right.
I could point out data that shows it works, but clearly you are not interested. Actually paying attention to details might result in you having to think which would probably hurt your brain.
So the next part of it will be forced vaccination…
I would not get excited over this.
To silent moshe. Since vaccines do not prevent transmission of virus, and children are not at risk for covid complications, how are the vaccines a solution to anything??
Silentmoshe, the vaccine does not prevent anyone from catching the virus — they aren’t even pretending it does, and in fact deny they ever said it does. Now they say its function is merely to alleviate the symptoms if you come down with it. So how can it prevent the virus from spreading?
