Authorities are raiding more than a dozen stores in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan in connection with a food stamp fraud investigation, 1010 WINS is reporting.
It’s all part of a joint investigation between Homeland Security, the New York State Attorney General’s Office and the New York State Department of Health, 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reported.
The alleged fraud involves the WIC (Women, Infant and Children) food stamp program.
Food stamp recipients would go to certain stores and trade the stamps for money, sources said. They received 80 cents on a dollar, with the store pocketing the rest, D’Auria reported.
The stores were collecting on average 20,000 food stamp coupons a month, sources said. Most stores collect about 200 coupons a month.

Very confusing article. Food stamps and WIC are two completely separate programs. I assume this article refers to the WIC checks. And plenty of ‘frum’ stores in Brooklyn will give you cash for your WIC checks. Totally illegal.
