Media agencies are reporting that at least seven people were killed in explosions that rocked the area of the Iranian Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. Israel Radio is reporting one or two powerful car bombs were detonated. Other reports speak of a rocket attack. A number of buildings were damaged in the attack.
Iran is a major backer of Hizbullah, which has sent fighters to Syria to back the government of Bashar al-Assad. The conflict in Syria has worsened sectarian tensions in Lebanon.
No organization is taking credit for the bomb attack at this time.
11:30 IL: Israel Radio reports the death toll is now 18.
