CANADA – We regret to inform our readers of the Petira of Mr. Sam Golubchuk Z”L at Grace General Hospital, in Winnipeg, Canada. Mr. Golubchuk has been on life support with minimal brain function at the hospital since last fall, and doctors at the hospital wanted to take him off life support causing a major controversy which was covered extensively on YWN.
Mr. Golubchuk’s family had adamantly refused to allow him removed from life support, since that would violate his beliefs as an Orthodox Jew.
Most recently, Mr. Golubchuk’s children had won a temporary injunction to prevent doctors from removing him from life support and the issue was to be decided in court in September.
The Levaya is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
UPDATE: YWN recieved the following via email from a neurologist who was to have testified on Golubchuk’s behalf:
Mr Samuel Golubchuk (Chaim Shmuel ben Pinya) was awake and interactive until shortly before his death. The Canadian healhcare system which sought his demise made up a term, “minimal brain function,” to convince people that ending his life, against his wishes, was acceptable.
While there is no halachic difference between actively ending the life of someone who is awake and someone who is comatose, many people, influenced by the values of the outside world, may not appreciate that.

Now the question is if the hospital contributed to his death,or if it happened the normal way.May he go in peace and may his family have comfort.ברןך דין האמת

One hopes he was not murdered by those thugs who call themselves ”Doctors” in that hospital.
