Isaac Abraham Announces Bid for City Council

ia.jpgBrooklyn, NY – A man who has long served as spokesman for Brooklyn’s various Orthodox groups said he wants to be the first Chasidic Jew elected to the City Council.

Isaac Abraham, a 56-year-old community activist and hardware-store owner from Williamsburg, joins at least four other contenders for the Democratic nomination to succeed David Yassky, who represents the 33rd District.

The primary is scheduled for Sept. 9. No Republican has stepped forward so far. The diverse district also includes Park Slope, Greenpoint, DUMBO, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights and Boerum Hill.

“I’m not running as a religious person. I’m running as a qualified person,” Abraham said.

“One of the issues I want to fight for is school vouchers.”

  1. He would do the Orthodox Jewish community a better service by registering as a Republican. Who in the Democratic Party is in favor of vouchers?

  2. may best be suited to run as dog-catcher.
    all mouth with no action.
religious person?, what makes you religious?
    qualified? yes, as dog-catcher.
sorry, but thats my unbiased opinion.

  3. Park Slope, Greenpoint, DUMBO, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights and Boerum Hill are the most liberal neighborhoods in brooklyn. Unfortunately I don’t think he stands a chance

  4. Isaac Abraham is a smart guy! He would make a big differance as an advocate for the entire NY Jewish Community! GO ISAAC GO!! I hope you win
