Anybody out there actually took advantage of extending you car’s warranty after receiving a phone call?
Just wondering…
July 27, 2021 11:07 pm at 11:07 pm #1995150LostsparkParticipantNo matter how much I keep paying these services I still am receiving phone calls from them! How much money is enough?!?
July 28, 2021 9:21 am at 9:21 am #1995169GadolhadorahParticipantMost extended warranties are marketed by third-parties and generally are not cost-effective in terms of coverage. The only ones that MAY be a good option are those offered by the manufacturer and those are generally limited to vehicles serviced at their dealerships for the full term of the initial warranty. If you go online, you will find a gazillion complaints from those who purchased what they thought would be comprehensive coverage (like their initial warranty) only to discover most claims are denied for incomprehensible reasons and/or cover only non-OEM parts and impose obscene labor charges.

EACH ITEM DEPENDING ON ITS PRODUCT OR DEMAND ETC….there’s just a limit how much Hashem expects from a person regarding Hishtadlus versus bitachon and Emunah etc….
Example: Hashem doesn’t expect a person as part of Hishtadlus to buy his wife another $10,000 diamond ring for her birthday EACH YEAR. Just something to make her birthday special to be considered doing your Hishtadlus and making her feel special.
July 28, 2021 9:37 am at 9:37 am #1995232GoldilocksParticipantI get calls all the time about extending my car’s warranty!
Unfortunately, I cannot take them up on the offer, as I don’t own a car (sigh).July 28, 2021 10:10 am at 10:10 am #1995264GadolhadorahParticipantGoldilocks: If you believe the snake oil salesmen telemarketing the extended vehicle warranties, it would be worth it for you to go out and buy and old car, which will pay for itself in the savings from the extended warranty and still leave enough money to go out and buy a a hand-raised, free range chicken for Kaparos and a $500 Calabrian esrog for Succos. Hamayvin yavin.
July 28, 2021 10:16 am at 10:16 am #1995268hujuParticipantTo Lostspark: How much money is enough? None, and that is what you should pay them.

“If you believe the snake oil salesmen … and still leave enough money to go out and buy a a hand-raised, free range chicken for Kaparos and a $500 Calabrian esrog for Succos. Hamayvin yavin. “
An explanation for those who don’t understand you might be good here, because it looks like you are mocking those who do hiddur mitzvah, and I hope I’m interpreting wrong.
July 28, 2021 6:55 pm at 6:55 pm #1995414GadolhadorahParticipantAvram in MD: Thanks for noting that my parody might not be clear. Simply put, MOST (not all) of these extended warranty contracts marketed via robocalls are a SCAM, a total waste of money and promise illusory coverage that will never cover the true cost of getting most repairs. They offer to cover a 10 year old car with 100,000 miles w/o any sort of underwriting or risk assessment of the car’s condition. The promise such great savings that they will be able to spend money on those items that were always beyond your means. If i had said “take the whole family to Disneyworld” rather than buying the world’s most expensive esrogim it might make the point more clearly. I thought the “free range Kaporos chicken” would be the giveaway but I guess not.i
July 28, 2021 6:56 pm at 6:56 pm #1995417yaakov doeParticipantAnyone calling telling me that my car’s warranty has expired is a scammer just like those callers offering a reduced rate on my credit cards. I tell the warranty callers that I only have a car like a 56 Nash or a 60 Rambler and they say they can’t offer a warranty. To the credit card scammers offering me a reduced interest rate I tell them that I have $35,000 credit card debt and ask if they can offer me less than my current 0%. For some reason they hang up on me.
July 29, 2021 12:29 am at 12:29 am #1995479GadolhadorahParticipantYaakov Doe: Can I interest you in a Bridge over the East River that has a long-term structural warranty? I can offer you an incredible deal and you can pay it off monthly using your zero interest credit card.
July 29, 2021 12:10 pm at 12:10 pm #1995677yaakov doeParticipantGadolhadorah, can I pay with my card to get the points? I think I’ll take the bridge but will forgo the warranty? Any bonus point deals for your sales?
July 30, 2021 12:08 am at 12:08 am #1995876Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantWhen you are offered a. Seemingly good warranty on the car you know is a lemon, you can’t take it! It is either he is scamming you, as already mentioned, BUT the other alternative is that you are scamming him! This is also not allowed, so there is nothing to hope for. Hope we will not starting looking for tirutzim on which cases you can still cheat …
