With all the negative and depressing news circulating the global news feeds on a daily constant. This story stands out as a “feel good” article that is actually creating a big Kiddush Hashem on many social networks. The article originated on Reddit and has been shared over half a million times in the last 24 hours. Below is the text that accompanied the image on Reddit.
“Heading home on the Q train yesterday when this young African American guy nods off on the shoulder of a Jewish man. The man doesn’t move a muscle, just lets him stay there. After a minute, I asked the man if he wanted me to wake the kid up, but he shook his head and responded, ‘He must have had a long day, let him sleep. We’ve all been there, right?’
He was still sleeping soundly when I got off the train 20 minutes later.
It was a small gesture, but a kind one. I love New Yorkers!”
What a wonderful reminder that every moment is a chance to do something good for another person. And not only that, but inspire the others around us with our small but powerful actions.
The name of the “shoulder rest” traveler is unknown however his righteous act is worthy of being called a Kiddush Hashem.

Totally nice & so Special!!
What’s even more, the Jewish guy had to get off while that fellow was still sleeping. Instead of getting off at his stop he remained on the subway an extra 25 minutes all the way to the end of the line at Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue so as to not wake the poor guy up!!!
Yitzchok Isaak was immediatly recognized by many of us, his friends neighbors and relatives. His quoted words are exactly what I would expect to hear from him.
He is a great guy, very good Chazan, he davens at my inlaw’s shul!
Definitely a Kiddush hashem
Smart man probably figured it’s under control this way.
This is really the nature of the whole world. They lean on us and expect us to always be there to help them.
We need more articles like these!! Best way to start off my day.
There will always be people that have negative responses to all the good things going on out there. What wonderful people
Chachom – I assure you that Yitzchok Isaak got off at his usual stop and didn’t ride the train to the end. Look for him at several shuls that he frequents and ask him yourself if you doubt me.
here is a twist of the same even
what if it was on a bus (in israel) and (QUALIFIER) PACKED bus and your legs hurt) and its a teen girl who falls asleep on the shoulder of a teen boy
i could add more details like its a 3 hour ride and no one gets on or off and no one can really see
To thegreatfixer, the girl would never sit down next to the boy so your scenario is unlikely.
yaakov doe — What are you talking about? How could you c’v discount the great accomplishments of this true tzadik? He is an all-Jewish hero. I even heard he gave that poor fellow $200 to help him get by!!!
To Aukuperma – The guy probably had this whole stunt planned to make him and his type look more righteous. Well, it won’t work! We’re not going to work! And we won;t support exposure to secular life! Did you not notice his too tziyonish yarmulka?!? How low these people stoop…
“Did you not notice his too tziyonish yarmulka?!? How low these people stoop…”
Micah0123: How low have WE stooped if we’re so blind that we can’t see the goodness in other people because we’re too focused on what yarmulka or hat they are wearing!
You don’t become bigger by standing on top of someone else. He probably had no intention of getting any recognition. He just wanted to do a chesed. His yarmulka doesn’t change that!
