(Photo link at bottom) The annual lunch-meeting between Flatbush Hatzoloh and the upper-brass in the NYPD of Brooklyn South took place on Wednesday.

Those attending the meeting which took place in the Flatbush Hatzolah Garage on Ocean Avenue, included Brooklyn South Chief Joseph Fox, the commanding officers, Lieutenant’s Sergent’s, and Community Affairs Officers of all the local precincts in the Flatbush Hatzolah coverage area.

(Click on image to ENLARGE) Isaac Unger, founder and coordinator of Flatbush Hatzolah addressed the meeting by saying that exactly 35-years-ago (this month) was when Flatbush Hatzolah was started. It began with four members & four oxygen tanks. It has since grown into the largest “Hatzolah” neighborhood – with more than 200 members who responded to over 8,000 calls last year alone. On behalf of Flatbush Hatzolah he thanked the police department and their commanders – and officers for their cooperation and assistance in their life-saving mission.

(Click on image to ENLARGE) Raphael Treitel, who serves as the liaison between Flatbush Hatzolah and the NYPD in Brooklyn South spoke about the great relationship between the NYPD and Hatzolah, and thanked Chief Fox and the rest of the NYPD immensely for their continuous support of Flatbush Hatzolah. Mr. Treitel finished by presenting Chief Fox with a Flatbush Hatzolah Tee-Shirt, and told him that he might want to be seen wearing it – at one of the summer baseball games, held annually between the NYPD and Flatbush Hatzolah.

(Click on image to ENLARGE) Chief Fox then spoke about his career as an NYPD officer since he joined the force in 1981, and how he joined “to make a difference”.

“Making a difference is what you guys do every day as Hatzolah members, Chief Fox said. When I started as a cop, I thought only a police officer can be making a difference out there – until I requested an ambulance to respond for an unconsious, homeless man. Those guys showed up, and and got involved in his treatment, while I stood far away. It really opened up my eyes, and got me thinking about the importance of other people making a difference out there – including individuals such as Hatzolah”. 

(Click on image to ENLARGE) Chief Fox acknowledged the presence of Rabbi Dovid Price senior coordinator of Flatbush Hatzolah – for exerting extra effort in attending this meeting.

The chief concluded his speech by commending Hatzolah on their outstanding service they provide to the community, and wished everyone a safe, and quiet summer.

While speaking to YWN after the meeting, a Flatbush Hatzolah spokesperson told us that the reason for things running so smoothly, is due to these annual meetings, and the continues training sessions which the new police officers in the local Pct’s attend.
