A resident of the Shomron community of Eli, a man in his 20s was arrested after Arabs in the area accused him of cutting down their olive trees. Detectives came to the man’s home to make the arrest after residents of the Arab village of Kariyut pointed to the man as being responsible for damaging their trees.
Police brought the suspect before the Jerusalem Magistrate Court seeking to have him remain behind bars. The suspect is being defended by a Honenu attorney. The court extended his remand for 24 hours, until erev Shabbos Parshas Toldos 5774.
The Arabs explain he was spotted last Friday night cutting down “dozens of tress” and when he realized a watchman spotted him, he ran.
