Why is it that when the NYPD wants to ‘protect’ pedestrians they hide to catch the drivers violating laws but when they want to ‘protect’ us from thugs (like after what happened this past Shabbos in BP) they park cars with their lights flashing all over the place.
Wouldn’t parking cars with lights flashing also make people slow down or come to complete stop at a stop sign …
OR wouldn’t hiding to catch the thug and get him off the street keep people safe even in places where there are no flashing lights
are we really supposed to believe that ticket blitzes are not about raising money?
It’s useful to think of the traffic enforcement officers and the police as two separate entities, even though they’re not; even though they’re sometimes the same people.
Police = good, necessary.
traffic enforcement = meter maids.
there are places in Eretz Yisroel that don’t have enough police cars for law enforcement so they put up flashing blue and red lights just as a deterrent
Avi K, I don’t think its a great comparison, in regards to deterring law-breakers, if not for hidden police, law-breakers can just see that there’s no police in sight, and do what they want to do, without fearing there might be police in the area. However an illness isn’t waiting for the deterrer to go away before “attacking”. If the deterrer is there, it’s there.
