One in three people who recovered from the coronavirus suffers from a neurological or psychiatric disorder six months later, according to the largest study on the mental toll of long COVID published on Wednesday.
The study, published in The Lancet Psychiatry journal, shows that coronavirus patients have a significantly increased chance of developing brain-related conditions than those who suffered from other respiratory tract infections.
Out of 230,000 recovered virus patients, 34% were diagnosed with a psychiatric or neurological condition within six months, with the most common conditions being anxiety (17%) and mood disorders (14%). For 13% of patients, it was their first mental health diagnosis.
The incident of post-COVID neurological disorders such as brain hemorrhage (0.6%), stroke (2.1%) and dementia (0.7%) were rarer but were still significant, especially in those who suffered severe coronavirus symptoms.
Coronavirus patients suffered a 44% greater risk of developing a mental health or neurological disorder after COVID than after the flu and a 16% higher risk than after a respiratory tract infection.
“Although the individual risks for most disorders are small, the effect across the whole population may be substantial,” said Paul Harrison, lead author from the University of Oxford.
“Many of these conditions are chronic,” he said. “As a result, health care systems need to be resourced to deal with the anticipated need, both within primary and secondary care services.”

Hmm… I wonder why ANYONE would have anxiety after COVID, especially during lockdown? Mood swings also… really?
i think anyone will agree, that it is caused by the way people make it sound. that someone that is covid positive can be considered dead. the amount of pachad is unbelievable!! i know someone that tested positive and for the first 2 days she was pacing the room saying she still wants to walk her 2 unmarried sons to the chuppah… she was certain she was going to die because of the way people make it sound. so if she is to go for a psych test now i would not be surprised at all if she would have anxiety or any of the above
Ok I think this is enough already.
I think the third that they are referring to, are the people making studies on people that had Covid.
Such chutzpah to post such an article! This is not true! False info used just as a scare tactic! You are stupid enough to fall for this! Most people in the heimishe world have had the virus and no one is suffering from psychiatric disorders! This is a scare tactic used for many reasons! To strengthen the liberal stance and to make people feel like only BIG Government can save you! STUPID AND IRRESPONSIBLE Yeshiva World! We have survived a lot worse! We will survive this too biezras Hashem!!!
Wait a minute! It says: “For 13% of patients, it was their first mental health diagnosis”, that means, 77% had previous mental health diagnosis!
3/4 were loony BEFORE they got Covid-19!
Maybe the reverse is true: 77% of Covid-19 patients had previously been mentally heath diagnosed.
Having a previous mental health diagnosis makes one susceptible to Covid-19!
Loopy and loony makes for corona.
