The second group of Arab terrorists is set for release as the government continues negotiations with the PA (Palestinian Authority). Israel agreed to incremental prisoner releases as talks with the PA continue. A total of 104 terrorists will be released. In this release, 21 of the terrorists will be sent to PA autonomous areas throughout Yehuda and Shomron and 5 to Gaza. The 26 murderers being released in this batch are responsible for killing 27 Israelis.
The following statement was released on Sunday,23 Cheshvan 5774 after the cabinet gave its stamp of approval to the release.
“Pursuant to the Government’s 28 July 2013 decision to resume the diplomatic negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority and authorize a ministerial team on the release of prisoners during the negotiations, the release of 26 Palestinian prisoners was approved this evening. All of the prisoners slated for release perpetrated offenses before the Oslo accords and served prison sentences of 19-28 years. Twenty-one of them are from Judea and Samaria and five are from the Gaza Strip.
“The releases will be carried out at least 48 hours after the list is published.
“It should be emphasized that any prisoner who resumes hostile activity will be returned to serve the remainder of his sentence”.
The release of the names is to permit challenging the release in the court. In actuality, the fact that the names were publicized hours ahead of the release makes the move nothing more than symbolic.
