Eretz Yisrael is moving over to standard time on motzei Shabbos Parshas Chayei Sara 5774. Clocks will move back one hour at 02:00 to become 01:00.
This was the latest the country has continued to operate on DST, a move compelled by a Knesset decision of a number of months ago in an effort to prolong the longer summer daylight days and save energy.
While many applauded the move, it created significant hardships for many citizens who travel a distance to work, compelled to miss minyan or leave shul early since sunrise on Shabbos, the last day of DST in Yerushalayim will be 06:49. The days following Sukkos have been difficult for many, such as the residents of yishuvim throughout Yehuda and Shomron. Many of the residents have had to miss minyan, daven on buses, or leave shul before laining on Mondays and Thursdays.
With the return of standard time, sunrise in Yerushalayim on Sunday, 23 Cheshvan will be 05:50.

I agree it’s been difficult, and even now, to get up at 6 and be completely pitch black is also hard, but there were also many benefits to it. Before, during, and after sukkos, when it was vacation and the weather was still nice, we all had more time during the day to build our sukkos, to enjoy the nice weather with the family for longer, to not have to get up so early during vacation bec zman krias shma would be so early, save energy, etc…everything has pros and cons and personally, I think in this case the pros outweigh the cons and I’m happy they decided to change it (and I’m a chareidi avreich living in e’y)
Same day as UK & Europe fall their clocks 1 hour.
This last week in October is also mighty hard for Shacharis here in the USA, just so that Nochrim have 1 more hour of daylight for Halloween ticker tricks.
Not a word about fasting on Yom Kippur…perhaps we have gotten over that nareshkeit
The latest zman for Netz is only about 10 minutes later than the latest time for Netz in early January. Big deal.
I was very happy that שבת didn’t start until after 5, next week it’ll be at 16:14.
