Israel Police’s Etgar Unit went into full operation on Tuesday, confiscating Israeli vehicles found in garages in Yehuda and Shomron, in violation of the new law prohibiting Israelis from servicing and repairing their vehicles in Arab-owned garages throughout Yehuda and Shomron.
Tens of vehicles were confiscated in Tuesday’s unprecedented operation. The unit commander, Yehuda Atar, stated that in addition to security considerations behind the law, there is the economic component, explaining the Arab-owned garages are taking away business from legitimate law-abiding garages inside pre-1967 Green Line Israel.
The law is also intended to reduce the number of car thefts from Israel to PA autonomous areas, for in the past, the parts from the stolen cars were used in PA garages. This also resulted in an unknown number of vehicles traveling the roadways in a compromised safety state.
