After the assault against HaGaon HaRav Aaron Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita in his home by an individual has shocked the Torah world. It appears the avreich who is in custody is mentally unstable, telling authorities he received instructions to attack the rav in his dreams.
In response to the incident, HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita called for tefilos and chizuk in all kollelim, seminaries and yeshivos ketanos and gedolos around the country in response to the “bizui kovod talmidei chachamim” Yated reports.
Rav Chaim instructed a delegation of prominent roshei yeshiva that visited with him on Wednesday night, the eve of 20 Cheshvan 5774 to arrange the events. The gadol hador called for the tefilos and chizuk today, Thursday. Among the rabbonim who met with R’ Chaim were members of Degel Hatorah’ Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael.
The rabbonim are implementing Rav Chaim’s words, including Beis Yaakov Schools worldwide. The main event will take place on Thursday at 19:00 in Ponevezh Yeshiva in the presence of HaGaon HaRav Aaron Yehuda Leib Shteinman Shlita.

I think everyone – at whatever level, from Gadol to simple Yid – should be Mefashfesh b’Ma’asav to see what could have brought on an atmosphere where one could even consider violence against a fellow Jew – let alone a Gadol b’Yisrael. When the “Kol Ya’akov” leads to the “Yedei Eisav”, we need to see what we are doing wrong…

I am 100% sure that Harav Shteinman Shlita himself has already said “Gam Zu L’Tova!”
Don’t be gullible – his lawyer taught him what to say to the courts. He knew exactly what he was doing and deserves to pay the price. Unfortunately, he has many sympathisers in this part of the world. This wasn’t a freak incident.
This should be a lesson to all. When you use incendiary language, you should not be surprised with violence.

The big commotion is due to the political nature of the assault. It was a member of the opposition political party to the Rav’s, mainstream Litvish one. That’s the reason for the buzz!

The fact that the guy was unstable just means that it happened without inhibition. But the idea that R’ Shteinman did something that requires his protest didn’t come from his head. That’s what the protest is.

The judge ordered him into a major psychiatric unit in the abarbanel medical center. The guy was treated there as a young teen for a lengthy time. His family came out saying that he’s a disturbed individual. It’s clear that this is a situation by someone that needs professional help. His picture says so too.

I was always uncomfortable with the mixing of Godol Byisroel and politics.
#10 – I’ve considered how I personally need to avoid demonizing my opponents or those who disagree with me. We can disagree without resorting to vitriolic language.
Attempting to understand the other side – even if I disagree with it – is something else I work on. The fact that the other side is clearly wrong in some areas does not mean that they have no legitimate concerns/ta’anos. Rather than taking a self-righteous attitude by saying “well, they’re always trying to get me” or “they’re always out to get what they want for their own”, I try to see each issue on its own, to avoid getting sucked into the Sinas Chinam spiral that might otherwise result.

I was Skeptical until I saw this. When will we have such a kennes for Kvod Shomayim. Not to take away from The Gadol hador Shlita but we are all going a little crazy

Huh? Caring about Kavod of our Gedolim (in essence due to their greatness in Torah and yiras shomayim…) is giving Kavod to Shomayim. It would be terrible if such a thing would happen and we just ignore it.

Things like this can only happen when we are not strong in Ahavas Yisrael. When we know that no matter how we identify as Jews, we are all one soul, Nishmas Am Yisrael, then such things won’t happen. Does it take Moshiach for us to see this? Perhaps we can each find one way to open up an area in our hearts that is behind iron bars, each one of us, and let some light shine into this world from a higher place.
The term “Avreich” implies that the guy is in some Kollel. Sort of exposes the fact that there is no vetting process to determine intellectual or mental fitness to be supported by the community.
