Poll: Likability Wins It For De Blasio

With 12 days to go, Republican mayoral candidate Joe Lhota is still lagging in the polls by a large margin as there’s a broad consensus that Bill de Blasio is the best choice to improve schools, create affordable housing and give the middle class and poor a better break than they’ve had in the Bloomberg years, an amNewYork-News 12 poll found.

Mr. de Blasio leads Mr. Lhota 64 percent to 23 percent, with 4 percent choosing other candidates and 8 percent undecided, according to the survey conducted by Penn Schoen Berland.

By 65 percent to 30 percent, voters favor de Blasio’s signature proposal to hike taxes on New Yorkers earning more than $500,000 to fund universal pre-k and after-school programs over Lhota’s pledge not to raise taxes. Nonetheless, by 49 percent to 38 percent, NYC likely voters don’t believe he would win that fight.

“New Yorkers’ expectations for de Blasio as a change agent are quite high. Despite the fact that New Yorkers like him so much, they have concerns that he won’t be able to get done what he has promised,” pollster Mike Berland said.

But New Yorkers like de Blasio. He enjoys a 71 percent to 23 percent favorability rating. Lhota’s unfavorable rating, 41 percent, exceeds his favorable rating of 39 percent.

“De Blasio is smooth and articulate, which gives New Yorkers confidence,” Berland said. “He makes Lhota look, by contrast, small, mean and feisty, which is not what New Yorkers want right now.”

  1. Why are New Yorkers going to vote for a person who wants to RAISE taxes on people in order to pay for more social programs that NEVER work? Many NYCers already pay well over FIFTY PERCENT IN ASSORTED TAXES!!!!! People don’t remember what the the city was like before Giuliani but I do. NYC wasn’t someplace you really wanted to be unless you HAD to be there.

Granted Lhota isn’t Mr Conservative but between the two, there should be no question NOT to vote for DeBlasio!

Oh, if you think you don’t have enough money to be taxed like that, you don’t understand simple economics. When the supposed rich people are taxed to much they don’t spend their money. This means no new jobs. They won’t spend their money in other stores. They won’t spend because they won’t have money.

You have to be nuts to cast a vote for a socialist commie like this!!!!!!

How many really remember the city before Mayor Rudy? Seems like not too many remember for bad things were back then. I do remember and but that’s EXACTLY what will happen with DeBlasio as mayor

  2. No. 2: You spend a lot of your time and text telling the rest of us that we don’t understand public issues. Why don’t you reveal to us where you get your wisdom? Because it sounds like right-wing talk radio, rather than fact-based publications.

  3. This guy Blasio sure doesn’t seem too likeable to me. He’s grumpy and nasty. It’s amazing how fooled people can be!

  4. Vote for bill deblasio a real friend for Jews and a clear vision and plan for NYC. Lohta will be a second Bloomberg. He has no faith in the NYPD. And no plan how he will keep city safe. The only plan he has is to attack deblasio.
