In a major upset for the Sephardi majority in Elad, Yisrael Porush emerged the winner in the Elad elections. For the first time since the establishment of the city, an Ashkenazi mayor has been elected.
After 29 polling stations in the city have been counted, it appears Porush defeat his opponent, Shas’ Tzuriel Krisfel by 500 votes.
As in the Yerushalayim race, this represents a major defeat for Shas leader Aryeh Deri.
