Charles Hynes is not backing down from his brutal campaign against Democratic nominee for Brooklyn DA, Ken Thompson, in his bid to hold on to office for another four years.
In an interview with photo journalist Shimon Gifter on Sunday, Mr. Hynes refused to apologize or take back his remark, reportedly, labeling his opponent, Ken Thompson, a Black gun runner. He called the Democrats criticizing him over the comment – “foolish people.”
Meanwhile, the NY Post reported, Monday morning, that Mr. Thompson has yet to release his tax returns.
A Thompson spokesman said last week that the records would be made available “in the coming days” but failed to produce any copies by Sunday.
In light of the New York Post’s report today, the campaign of Mr. Hynes called on his opponent to join the DA in a commitment to transparency.
“Throughout his tenure as Brooklyn’s District Attorney, Hynes has made it one of his highest priorities to have one of the most transparent DA’s offices in the state,” said Campaign Spokesman Jerry Schmetterer. “We have succeeded in that endeavor and we now call on Ken Thompson to make the same commitment to transparency.”
“Being an effective prosecutor requires the public trust,” continued Schmetterer. “In keeping with his commitment to transparency, the DA has released the last five years of his tax returns to the public and we now call upon Ken Thompson to do the same. The fact that he has not is yet another example in his pattern of deceiving the public. According to the New York Post, he has a convicted felon running his campaign, yet won’t admit it and now he won’t release his tax returns. What is Ken Thompson hiding?”
Responding the The Post, Thompson spokesman James Freedland shot back: “While Democratic primary winner Ken Thompson will release his tax returns in the coming days, Republican Joe Hynes fought tooth-and-nail not to release innocent men he sent to prison for decades for crimes they didn’t commit.”

Transparency? What a bunch of lies!! We want to know everything about why Sam Kellner is still not acquitted and released. Charles Hynes owes him a huge apology along with all the other innocents HIS OFFICE accused and even convicted under false pretenses.
Thompson 100%
aries,
Maybe Charles Hynes owes an apology to some people, but Sam Kellner is definitely not my first pick. Do you even know him?
Saul, do you know anything about the case????
aries, I know Shlome Aron, the case, and other “nice” stuff he’s done. Without getting into the ugly details, lets just say I believe he deserves a fair trial. This is one thing I agree on with Hynes.
aries,
Yes I know the case, and I believe he deserves a fair trial.
