New York City mayoral hopeful Bill de Blasio is criticizing his opponent Joe Lhota for campaigning in a Brooklyn synagogue that would not allow women to enter.
Lhota, a Republican, was on a walking tour of the Borough Park neighborhood on Wednesday when he entered the ultra-Orthodox Shomer Shabbos synagogue.
A synagogue official then asked three women — a reporter, a Lhota campaign aide, and a member of the candidate’s security team — to leave but said the men could stay.
Lhota emerged from the synagogue a minute later. He defended the synagogue’s religious practices as “First Amendment constitutional rights.”
De Blasio, a Democrat, said Thursday he found it “perplexing” that Lhota would go in when women were not allowed.
The election is Nov. 5.

De Blasio is so Unimpressive!
He needs to grow up.
I aint voting for him.
De Blasio is anti-semitic Orthodox-hating politico. Much like most of the luny-left he is part of.
He was “perplexed”. What is more perplexing is how Satmar leaders and Greenfield can support this guy.
It’s easy to criticize when you’re holed up in some smoke filled basement in Park Slope than when you actually campaign. Problems arise during campaign stops and bigger dilemmas occur when governing a metropolis. Fortunately, we have metrics, such as the U.S. Constitution to guide our politicians. It seems like the Cubans and Nicaraguan Sandinistas don’t have freedom of religion in their constitution.
DeBlasio
get a life
and to our so called askonim , you want us to vote for a person who has a problem when women are asked to leave the mens section of a shuel.
And this is how he’s talking BEFORE he’s even elected mayor can you even imagine what this poor excuse of a politician has in store for us Orthodox Jews????
Shame on you… David Greenfeld!!
Shame on you… Satmer!!
Shame on you all horrible askonim endorsing this shmutz!!
What a jerk.
DeBlasio (AKA whose RERAL NAME is Warren Wilhelm)is a seasoned Alinskyite demagogue. He has no shame.
He will do “whatever it takes” to win, even if he has to step over his opponent’s dead body (which he is doing, in fact).
So much for the theory that De Blasio is not an anti-Semite (and much support for the theory that his supporters are fools).
Please talk repect about David Greenfield. As far as im concerned, I dont know him personally at all, however its very obvious the only guy working hard in his district.
No one can satisfy everyone.
Be thankful and understanding too.
Lhota has outright pledged to repeal any MBP related city regulations, while de Blasio has refused to make any such pledge. Still, Satmar who are supposedly at the forefront of the battle for MBP chose to go with deBlasio.
Very troubling indeed.
Mr Step Aside,
Mr Greenfeld has an obligation as a public servant to represent the people that voted him in. And by endorsing De Blasio that is an ill representation of his constituents! People that are familiar with De Blasio (and he’s doing a fine job letting fellow Brooklynites know what he’s all about) are horrified at Greenfeld for endorsing him. And the people that don’t know De Blasio trust David Greenfeld that he will endorse the Candidate that will be best for they’re specific needs. By endorsing De Blasio he LOST his credibility from his constituents!
Will DeBlasio raise the same question when certain mosques in the city refuse to allow “infidels” in. You can bet your bottom dollar that he will be quiet and sheepish…that is to say if he will go to such places at all
DeBlastoff has proven himself to be anything but a Jew lover.
If this morning’s Daily News headline, among so many other recent occurrences, didn’t send us a strong message, I can’t imagine what will.
If he gets re-elected, be prepared that this city will go down lower than it was during the Dinkins administration.
It’s time for ALL of us to wake up and smell the coffee.
Why weren’t women allowed in. Was there davening or a shiur going on at the time?
I find it hard to believe that DeBlasio, who for many years represented the “frum” community in the City Council, and was re-elected many times, would make such comments. He has visited many Rabbonim, Rebbes and shuls in Boro Park and Flatbush. Didn’t he ever wonder why there were no women present at those meetings? Why is suddenly concerned about women’s rights?
I have a better question hymie18, what did the reporter ask Deblasio that Deblasio gave such a statement. Something is missing here.
#15: Shomer Shabbos shul has davening going on continuously from the very early morning until very late into the night. Every day.
Same old Bloomberg tactic to bash and mislead statements. Lhota has NO idea anything about us even tough he is Jewish and the gentile deBlasio knows more about our הלכות and issues then Lohta. Bill deBlasio was at שומר שבת so many times and knows what’s sensitive to the community and Lohta had the Bloomberg chutzpah to disrespect the community. And to noysparker comment ” shame Satmar and shame the askunim” why didn’t you say shame on them for voting in Bloomberg third term that was bad for the community and bad for NYC??
