Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon announced on Sunday, 9 Cheshvan 5774 that the state-of-the art pilot helmets for the F-35 stealth fighter jets will be manufactured by Israel’s Elbit Systems. The Pentagon announced its decision and Elbit will be working with Rockwell Collins, its US partner.
The senior minister stated the Pentagon’s decision represents a “vote of confidence” from US officials. The helmet manufacture will take place in the United States, and this next generation helmet will be delivered with all planes that are ordered. Israel has already ordered 19 of the future generation stealth jets, which of late have been in the news, citing some problems with the plane.
Reuters recently reported “Two minor cracks were found in a bulkhead of a Lockheed Martin Corp F-35 B-model during durability testing, but they are not expected to affect flight operations of the planes, a Lockheed spokeswoman said on Thursday.”
