It was just a few short days ago when IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz detailed some of the deadly scenarios faced by the military, including a terrorist tunnel under a kindergarten.

Today, Sunday, 9 Cheshvan 5774 a gag order was removed permitting the publication of the discovery of the IDF uncovering a terrorist tunnel that ran from Hamas-controlled Gaza to Kibbutz Ein HaShloshah. Officials in the IDF Southern Command estimate the length of the tunnel is at least a kilometer (6/10 mile) and portions are 15 meters deep underground. The tunnel was constructed in proximity to a community kindergarten and it was built with numerous exits. Officials add that there are most likely many tunnels still operating in the area.

Units which specialize in tunnels were activated and over recent days they neutralized the explosives running in the tunnel.

UPDATE: IDF Spokesman Brigadier-General Yoav Mordechai reports the tunnel was among the most advanced ever found, designed to facilitate transport of squads of terrorists and lighting.

UPDATE 12:01 IL: Officials representing border area communities in southern Israel question why Israel continues to permit trucks and construction materials into Gaza. They explain these very same materials are used to construct sophisticated tunnels.
