An El Al flight was compelled to make an emergency landing in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea on Wednesday morning, 5 Cheshvan 5774. The incident was caused by a problematic engine.
The Boeing 767 took off during the night from Bangkok with 218 passengers on board and it was supposed to land in Ben-Gurion International Airport at 7:00am.
El Al officials announced the plane landed without incident and they are hopeful a replacement plane would be made available in a matter of hours.

Oddly enough, LY82 really does go near Eritrea. The great circle route would take it over Iran and Iraq, but because of Arabs behaving badly, it’s forced to take a roundabout route.
