As thousands accompanied HaGaon HaRav Dovid Feinstein, z’tl, to his final resting place at Har Hamenuchos in Israel, violent clashes broke out as Israel Police tried to disperse the massive crowd.
The levaya began peacefully at the Shamgar funeral home in Romema but as time went on, the crowd grew larger and larger, with many chutznikim who live in Jerusalem participating in the levaya. The participants were wearing masks but the crowd was too large for social distancing regulations to be properly adhered to.
A large number of police officers were sent to Romema and violent tumults broke out as they tried to disperse to the crowd.
There were also scuffles at the entrance to Har Hamenuchos, where HaRav Feinstein, z’tl, was buried, and two people were arrested.
The brothers HaRav Chaim and Dovid Feinstein were maspid HaRav Feinstein, z’tl, as well as other chashuve Rabbanim and Roshei Yeshivos.

So it is not just in New York that the health recommendations and regulations are ignored in a wholesale fashion by the Haredi community. And we wonder why others deride / dislike / hate us. The difference between those who riot and steal, those who party in Washington DC and us is that we say “asher bachar banu” and are a holy nation. When will we start acting as such in public?

Based on the pictures and videos it is not accurate to say “The participants were wearing masks but..”It looks to me like many if not most are NOT wearing masks. A mask on one’s chin is the equivalent of not wearing a mask. If the family asked people to not participate in person and that is considered kovod hamais why would those in America listen but not those in E”Y. I even know people who live on the Lower Eastside and did not participate in person in adherence to the request of the family. Looks like the chareidim bringing trouble upon themselves once again.

Can such crowds be justified in light of the potential health risk? Should we not fear this could be mitzvah ha’ba b’aveirah; yotse s’kheiro b’hefseido?
@ “PleaseStayCalm”: First, do you know that such a blanket condemnation and curse is justified? Do you know that all Israeli police are reshoim? Perhaps at least some are more to be pitied than to be censured, i.e., t’nikosh she’nishbu? Have you considered the possibility that some of the less eidel (refined) elements among the crowd may have provoked the police? Second, even if we are to assume that the police are reshoim, just who is served by publicly employing that type of vitriol in the manner that you have here? Do you not see the irony in the juxtaposition of your comment with your posting handle?
I appeal to all, L’ma’an akhai v’rei’ei, l’ma’an akheinu kol beis Yisroel, keep comments reasonable and responsible. Remember, all comments posted here are seen by all kinds of people, across the globe.

No question that there is much hatred, animosity and bias against ehrlikhe Yidden and esp. Haredim among the irreligious and the Zionists. No question that there have been any number of cases of excessive or gratuitous force and even outright cruelty on the part of Zionist police and IDF members toward frummeh Yidden. (And, of course, no question that Zionism, from its inception and in all of its forms, has been condemned by an overwhelming consensus of our greatest rabbis.)
All that notwithstanding, the two main points I made in my previous comment remain.
Are the Haredim never guilty of inconsiderate, irresponsible behavior and gratuitous provocation? Can the type of disregard for health restrictions shown in the photos not reasonably be viewed as examples of such behavior? Are there no unsavory, rowdy, reckless and even downright violent elements among at least many factions/subsets of the frum and Haredi demographic?
And ultimately, if nothing else, the lesson of the following old adage should always be kept in mind:

Does any of that mean, however, that no Haredim or other frum Yidden ever exhibit behavior that can reasonably be viewed as inconsiderate and irresponsible? Can the type of apparent disregard for health restrictions shown in the photos not reasonably be viewed as a prime example of such behavior? Are the Orthodox never guilty of gratuitous provocation? Are there no unsavory, rowdy, reckless and even some violent elements among at all among us?
Finally, if nothing else, it is always wise to bear in mind the lesson of an old moshol:
