I spoke to a number of Lifelong Democrats who are so disgusted at the way the community was treated by the Democrats that they plan to vote a straight GOP ticket, did anybody else hear such talk.
October 21, 2020 11:23 am at 11:23 am #1912175☕️coffee addictParticipantNo I guess your Democrats are smarter than ours
October 21, 2020 12:24 pm at 12:24 pm #19121871ParticipantIf you care about jewish survival, you’ll vote Republican. If see how the Dems treat Jews on a state and city level imagine on a federal level with senile Biden and radical dems running things.
October 21, 2020 12:24 pm at 12:24 pm #19121841ParticipantThere is a walk away movement but most orthodox jewish dems who think they’re still in the blue dog dem days. The secular jewish dems are the same bundist communists their grandparents were in Poland and Russia.
October 21, 2020 12:25 pm at 12:25 pm #1912183Reb EliezerParticipantI give a dvar torah to illustrate this. The gemorah in Bava Metzia says that a woman is stingy with her friend. The meforshim ask that Sarah Imenu gave fine flower which is better and more expensive. They give a mashel to lion who takes his cub to look around in the city. They come across a statue of Shimshon tearing apart lions. The young one says, lets run from here there they are tearing apart lions. Says the father, you are foolish, if they would tear lions apart why make a monument of it? You are making a monument by this OP that Democrats vote Republican but you don’t make an OP that Republicans vote Democrat as that is no news.
October 21, 2020 1:15 pm at 1:15 pm #1912212Reb EliezerParticipantThe above should be flour.
October 21, 2020 2:03 pm at 2:03 pm #1912232Reb EliezerParticipantTo explain the above question with the mashel. The nimshal is that the Torah publicized Sarah Imenu’s action as it was out of the ordinary behavior as other woman did not act like her giving the more expensive to their guests.
October 21, 2020 2:12 pm at 2:12 pm #1912253beisyosefParticipant@Reb Eliezer; You remind me of what shlomo hamelech said “ראית איש חכם בעיניו תקוה לכסיל ממנו”
Why would you post such a gemara? If you want you could have just posted the ending with the lions, not the part about women. Certain things should be kept in the bet medrash in order to prevent animosity towards religious judaism and our ancestors. It maybe true that the gemara says that (and yes, I know it’s a gemara daf 87A), but when you read the text inside you get a different “vibe” than from the way you iterated it. Also, see the chidush agadot (ibid.) that brings brings down from the Maharal M’Prague that explains that the reason why the gemara says that women are more reluctant to have guests has nothing to do with money and rather it is because they are the ones that work hard to prepare the meal and that it hurts them to see that many times their husband treats guests much better than he treats his own wife and that all she does is try to keep shalom bayit and it causes ill feelings.October 21, 2020 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #1912279commonsaychelParticipant@Reb Elizer, I feel bad for your friend and family that you need to talk thru riddles.
October 21, 2020 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #1912256GadolhadorahParticipantI suspect there are more Rs that will vote D this time around, than Ds voting R. Just this week, the Republican Chairman of the National Governors Association, Gov. Hogan, announced he was going to write-in the name of someone who was niftar 30 years ago rather than voting for his party’s candidate.
October 21, 2020 4:01 pm at 4:01 pm #1912296Reb EliezerParticipantbeisyosef, maybe times have changed. Otherwise let them learn from it and be like Sarah for whom it did not hurt what the husband did and the husband should not treat tbe guest better than his wife as most probably Avraham Avinu did.
I don’t like your insinuation with the pasuk.October 21, 2020 4:04 pm at 4:04 pm #1912314Tachles1ParticipantLifelong Republican here, but I am voting straight ticket Democrat this year.
I understand your frustration, but I’m ridin’ with Biden!
October 21, 2020 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm #1912364porParticipantSomeone asked me in shul this evening if I support Biden, to which I called him the ra b’miyuto, the lesser of the evils. Then I said midvar sheker tirchak, keep away from someone who is arguably the biggest liar ever in American politics. I didn’t mention that it’s probably unprecedented in political history for all previous Republican presidents and presidential candidates to support a Democrat. Another deciding factor is that DT proudly proclaims his disdain for all the scientists and all the scientific evidence of the massive and accelerating destruction of human lives (Harvey and Irma to name but a few) being caused by climate change.
October 21, 2020 6:06 pm at 6:06 pm #1912344Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipant@REb Eliezer, thanks for a good moshal.
October 21, 2020 6:06 pm at 6:06 pm #1912361Ben LeviParticipantI strive to be a Jew whose moral outlook on life is shaped by the Torah.
As such I view Biden who is openly and proudly of the opinion that the morality of the Torah is immoral ch”v and would seek to implement policies encouraging people to live a life in contrary to the Torah as a candidate who is deeply immoral.
So I have voted Trump.
October 21, 2020 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm #1912363commonsaychelParticipant@Tachles1, sorry I am not buying that you are a longtime GOPer just about all your postings have a left wing slant
October 21, 2020 8:17 pm at 8:17 pm #1912400Reb EliezerParticipantSee Rav Shafran’s Open Letter on his website.
October 22, 2020 11:23 am at 11:23 am #1912627Reb EliezerParticipantThe pasuk midevar sheker tirchak, further yourself from anything involving lies. It reminds me of a cute
story. A rebbi was asked to write for his student an acknowledgement, reference letter. He signed it at the edge of the paper. When asked why, he said to further myself away from a lie.October 22, 2020 11:23 am at 11:23 am #1912622commonsaychelParticipant@Reb Elizer, he said to vote a party line ticket?
October 22, 2020 9:07 pm at 9:07 pm #19127271ParticipantReb Eliezer you’re voting for someone who suspended his campaign for being a plagiarist not to mention being a dishonest politician for 47 years.
October 22, 2020 9:10 pm at 9:10 pm #1912731Reb EliezerParticipanthe, who?
October 22, 2020 9:15 pm at 9:15 pm #1912737Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipant@Reb Elizer, you are on a roll with good stories. Thanks, we need them.
I recall story of r Meltzer: he was asked to write a recommendation letter. He wrote it, thought about it, and then tore it up. He explained that he wanted to make sure that he is not refusing out of laziness.
October 22, 2020 9:16 pm at 9:16 pm #1912739Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantGH >> write-in the name of someone who was niftar 30 years ago
Nixon?!
He is plainly wrong. Yiftach BeDoro KiShmuel BeDoro.
October 22, 2020 9:37 pm at 9:37 pm #1912798commonsaychelParticipant@Reb eleizer, Safran wtote you should vot a staight party line?
October 23, 2020 10:54 am at 10:54 am #1912895Reb EliezerParticipantI think Rav Shafran emphasizes character over everything which is ‘NOT’ Trump.
October 23, 2020 12:40 pm at 12:40 pm #1912939commonsaychelParticipant@Reb Eliezer, and what exactly is the relevance of one persons opinion on who should be President to people voting on a party line ticket. And please don’t answer in a riddle.
October 26, 2020 1:51 pm at 1:51 pm #1913744Reb EliezerParticipantIt is not only a one person’s opinion but others also signed and what he writes makes sense, so it does not matter who writes it and from what party it comes from, where is your common sachel?
October 26, 2020 3:14 pm at 3:14 pm #1913824commonsaychelParticipant@Reb Elielzer FYI there were signs in Monsey signed by Rabbonim urging a straight GOP line vote
October 26, 2020 6:17 pm at 6:17 pm #1913911hujuParticipantWasn’t Barack Obama going to destroy the Jews when he was elected in 2008? If I went back to the comments and Coffee Room discussions prior to his election, I would not be surprised if an Obama victory was viewed in the same dire terms as Biden victory is being discussed now. So how do we take the doomsday expectations of the pro-Trump commenters now? With a grain of salt? Or a hearty laugh?
October 26, 2020 7:17 pm at 7:17 pm #1913918Reb EliezerParticipantOne of the undesigned on the above Open Letter is Rav Emanuel Feldman (1927) who was Rav in Atlanta, GA, the author of Tales Out of Shul. A hilarious story of his ability to bring conservative congregants to orthodoxy with his clever means.
October 26, 2020 9:04 pm at 9:04 pm #1913933commonsaychelParticipant@Reb Eliezer Rabbi Emanuel Feldman made aliya like 20 years ago, Did the Rabbi of Norway or Paraguay sign the letter as well?
October 26, 2020 11:28 pm at 11:28 pm #1913949Reb EliezerParticipantDid you see the letter? The first signatue is from Rabbi Emanuel Feldman.
October 27, 2020 9:04 am at 9:04 am #1914043commonsaychelParticipant@Reb E, His signing the letter when he has not lived or voted here for the last quarter century has the same relevance as Rav in NY signing a letter who to voted in Belgium elections because he lived in Brussels 25 years ago.
October 27, 2020 9:54 am at 9:54 am #1914069Reb EliezerParticipantThis has nothing to do where he lived but it is about a smart revered Rav who has experienced life being 93 years old shlita recognizing what is right or wrong.
October 27, 2020 10:12 am at 10:12 am #1914085commonsaychelParticipant@Reb E, I will be sure to have my nephew who lives in Israel ask his opinion on the next Israeli election, He cant voted here so who cares
October 27, 2020 10:29 am at 10:29 am #1914090🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantWell that’s more than a little disrespectful to someone who is more learned, knowledgeable and deserving of respect than you seem to be. Is it an authority problem with you or just overall disrespect issues that seem to keep poking thru your posts.
October 27, 2020 12:51 pm at 12:51 pm #1914102GadolhadorahParticipant“Well that’s more than a little disrespectful to someone who is more learned, knowledgeable and deserving of respect than you seem to be”
L’chochma: Are you referring to Trump or did you inadvertently post your response on the wrong thread???
October 27, 2020 1:05 pm at 1:05 pm #1914123commonsaychelParticipant@Syag, I have a Rav who I talk things over with, I listen to the Rabbonim in my city, I have a ton of respect for the work Rabbi Feldman did while he was in Atlanta, I read his book cover to cover, HOWEVER, he retired and moved out of the USA in 1991, I have an issue with ANY rav who does not reside in the US telling people how to voted regardless if they say Biden or Trump.
October 27, 2020 1:18 pm at 1:18 pm #1914127🍫Syag LchochmaParticipant“I have an issue with ANY rav who does not reside in the US telling people how to voted regardless if they say Biden or Trump.”
And i respect your right to have that opinion! But it has no bearing on how you talk about, to or reference a rav.
October 27, 2020 3:48 pm at 3:48 pm #1914168Reb EliezerParticipantcommon sachel, to comment on something it is good to read it. The letter says use Torah values, character, lealom jeheh adam, to vote which applies to any electiion anywhere.
November 3, 2020 7:17 am at 7:17 am #1916280commonsaychelParticipantThere is a huge push to vote a straight GOP line in Rockland County to send a message to the NY Democracts that we are very angry.
November 4, 2020 11:05 am at 11:05 am #1916766commonsaychelParticipantWell it looks like it happened, I looked at the results in the frum areas of Brooklyn, Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Nassau counties NY and Ocean County NJ and i saw a HUGE straight GOP line vote
November 4, 2020 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm #1916892opinionated-2ParticipantLev melachim v’sarim beyad Hashem.
It makes no difference who is actually sitting in the white house, he has no say in anything anyway.
If we did our hishtadlus in voting, that’s all we have to do and NO REASONS TO WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING EVER -
