Edelstein Threatens Chareidi Schools With Fines and Loss of Licenses

Israeli Health Minister Yuli Edelstein spoke about the Chareidi education system in red cities opening schools in accordance with the ruling of Hagaoan HaRav Chaim Kanievsky and against the express instructions of the government. Edelstein said that heavy fines will be given to all of the schools that opened.

“No permission whatsoever was given to any school. No one gave any school permission to open. Whoever did this can expect fines of more than 5,000 NIS. This is a mockery. I am looking into the possibility of canceling a school’s operating license, and the cancelation of budgets for schools that opened. Later, do not be surprised when the country begins to ill-treat any of these schools. Not opening a school isn’t a punishment, it is a medical act,” Edelstein said.

The Minister responded to a query claiming that people protesting at Balfour Street were not following the rules either: “If we are all careful and adhere to the rules and the social distancing, we can head into the winter with a reasonably low infection rate. We need to recall one important thing. When a person does something that is not right, he endangers himself and those around him. But we cannot say that because this person did something wrong, then we too can do something wrong.”

  1. This is a health minister?
Dr. Zelenko’s protocol is 99% effective in preventing hospitalization and death in high risk individuals.
Social distancing just makes it take longer to reach herd immunity.
The higher the “infection rate,” the better because very few are sick, and the more “infected,” the more who have immunity.
Mosdos here should listen to Rav Chaim and open the schools.

  2. P.S. Those who are immune are unable to transmit the disease to the high risk individuals, so the sooner most people become “infected, ” the better it is for the high risk people.
Also, thanks to pre-covid cross over T cell immunity from other coronoviruses, a significant percent of the population is immune without contracting covid.

  3. Mr Edelstein
you are more then a antisemit. How many chillonim dont keep the rules
Why you dont interfere there.Or with the russian Mafia like your friend
Liebermann. Is this a democratic country. Here in Europe they are not such antisemits like in Israel. A shame of you

  4. Yankele1 – your ignorance is astounding. It’s worth remembering that Health Minister Yuli Edelstein held on to his Judaism for 3 years in freezing prison cells in the depths of the Soviet gulag. In the same prison system where my own great uncle was sent to Siberia and was killed because he was a proud Jew; while the housing minister purporting to represent the chareidi community who recently resigned couldn’t even bring himself to stay in bidud for a week without breaking it. And too many in his constituency are doing the same. A friend of mine’s father spent more than a year in a cellar the size of a coffin breathing through a reed during the days and only being able to come out in the dark of night to keep out of sight of the Nazis, and you advocate not even wearing a mask and davening beyechidus to protect the most vulnerable among us?

It is terrible when anyone breaks the rules, chiloni or chareidi. When the infection rates are four-five times higher in chareidi communities, why would you demand the same level of enforcement? To be 80% less effective? that is nonsense and a quick way to once again raise infection rates.
