The following urgent message was sent to YWN by Chevra Hatzolah regarding the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases throughout the Jewish communities in NYC:
September 24, 2020
Dear Community Member,
Over the last few weeks, we have seen a steady and dramatic rise in COVID-19 cases in our community, with a recent alarming increase in severity and hospitalizations – including ICU admissions.
WE MUST ALL DO OUR PART TODAY TO HELP CONTROL THE SPREAD OF THIS POTENTIALLY DEADLY VIRUS!
- WEAR A MASK PROPERLY (covering mouth and nose) in cases where strict social distancing cannot be practiced.
- Follow recommended social distancing precautions and guidelines from the CDC, State and Local Governments, and other healthcare professionals.
- Large gatherings of any kind must be avoided.
- If you are feeling sick, STAY HOME.
There are some advanced therapies being used now in the hospitals (i.e., Remdesivir, Convalescent Plasma, Steroids, etc.) that may not have been available during the initial outbreak. Some of these treatments are proven to be more effective if given early in the course of the disease.
While we understand the hesitancy to go to the hospital for COVID-19, it is important to realize that there have been many changes in the hospital system since the initial outbreak. With the advanced therapies that are now available, it is important that if you are ill, you consult your doctor for guidance. In the event of an emergency, call Hatzalah.
We implore you to strengthen and remain committed to the safe-practices listed above. It is our fervent wish and prayer that this Yom Kippur, Hashem inscribe us all in the Book of Life.
G’mar Chasima Tova,

are we going to the Rebbes in New York this yom tov???
What happened to Hydroxychloroquine?
What ever happen to Zelenko protocol? To controversial to save lives?
Diblasio’s pointing at the Jewish areas is simple anti-Semitism.
Check the NYC web site for the current numbers. Some non Jewish areas such as Breezy Point and the Financial district are as bad if not worse on a per capita basis. Williamsburg is not bad at all in comparison to the rest of the city. You don’t have to believe me; just check the city’s own web site.
The NY Times and other liberal sites love to point at the Jews so they didn’t bother fact checking Diblasio on this.
So, I guess Hatzolah has joined the anti-Semites like diBlasio.
As Rabbi Newman said, “What, me worry?”
The charge of “antisemitism” has become little different than that of “racism”, “sexism”, “homophobia”, or any of the other epithets that are used to shutdown conversation and dismiss a priori even reasonable and legitimate criticism. Mayor De Blasio may be many things but an “antisemite” is not one of them.
If I may add to the great notice of hatzallah the following
VERY IMPORTANT AND URGENT!!!
Please forward to ALL of your contacts and they should continue this chain.
We’re holding by the eleventh hour already but Due to the current spike in cases in the tri-state area I feel that if indoor minyanim will be allowed on Yom Kippur it may even be worse then Yom kiPurim. I plead with anyone and everyone that has any power to influence others or any political connections to encourage the government to make a ban on any indoor minyanim for Yom kippur just like they’re doing in Israel. I can’t see a bigger zchus. While I believe that many people that are davening indoors are responsible and well meaning but because of a few that might not, it’s best for the government to ban it. Whoever helps in this endeavor may be saving so many lives is going in the path of the great tzadik Rabbi Yisroel Salanter!
Williamsburg lives so congested and such a communsl life much more likely they achieved near herd immunity..
Could they stop with instilling fear in people? We have enough anxiety already from this virus. And now with DOH doing inspections at our local yeshivas and schools looking to shut everyone down, crazy!
Why are we lumping everyone together? What about the majority of the population who have antibodies?
