On Wednesday, a number of rockets landed in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, resulting in damage to a number of homes. A number of weeks ago, a rocket claimed the life of Kfar Aza resident Jimmy Kedoshim, who was outside working on his lawn when the attack occurred.

Aliza, a resident of the kibbutz commented that residents feel they have been ‘marked’ by terrorists and as a result, the community is on the verge of collapse with farmers unable to work in the fields due to the continuous threat of attack.

Aliza remains in the kibbutz, stating “We are not leaving even if the kibbutz is destroyed,” but admitted sadly that since Jimmy was killed, the community is different – children are kept indoors and a number of people have moved away.

One family decided they can no longer wait for the government to act and they spent NIS 100,000 to construct their own private safe room in their home.

Parents are very tense and most do not permit small children to remain at home alone any longer. The kibbutz has decided that children are to remain in school until 4pm so they do not return home to empty homes, homes void of adult supervision.

Alon Shuster, the head of the Shar HaNegev Council, on Wednesday met with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, telling him “the time has come for the government to make immediate decisions.”
