An Israeli TV channel, Kan 11, featured the return of Rosh Yeshivas Ponevezh, Hagaon Harav Gershon Edelstein, to the yeshivah after a break of six months during which he almost never left his home due to the coronavirus pandemic.
HaRav Edelstein instructed that Ponevezh be re-opened for Elul zeman with complete adherence to health ministry regulations, including the wearing of masks. Bochurim are divided into groups of 50 per capsule and receive their meals on pre-packaged trays instead of eating in the dining room.
Several Ponevezh bochurim were interviewed, all expressing their excitement and happiness in beginning the Elul zeman following the yeshivah’s closing for a period of time.
HaRav Edelstein gave a shiur davka to the younger students, and allowed them to ask questions
“Due to the Rosh Yeshivah’s age, a plastic divider was placed between him and his students,” the broadcaster said.
