Price Tag Suspects Remanded in Jerusalem Courts

pThe four yeshiva students arrested on Sunday for allegedly damaging and destroying tombstones in the Greek Orthodox Cemetery on Har Tzion in Jerusalem’s Old City were remanded in a Jerusalem court on Monday, 26 Tishrei 5774. Police told the court that two of the defendants were apprehended in the act of using large rocks to smash tombstones.

Honenu attorney Adi Kedar will be defending some of the suspects. It appears their alleged actions may be tied to an ongoing struggle for control taking place in the Kever Dovid HaMelech complex between Jews and the Greek Orthodox Church on Har Tzion.

The court on Sunday, 25 Tishrei, extended the remand of two price tag suspects who allegedly damaged Arab-owned vehicles with screwdrivers and keys. These attacks reportedly occurred in the Shimon HaTzaddik area of the eastern capital. Police allege the two suspects, minors, damaged eight vehicles and asked the court to extend their remand for ten days. The court declined to honor the prosecution’s request and the remand of one suspect was extended for 24 hours and the second until Wednesday, 28 Tishrei.

Parents of the suspects have complained that their children are being held under unacceptable conditions, without a chair in their detention cell. One parent told the press her son is not permitted to meet with his attorney. In addition, one suspect is being held in a public facility in violation of the law governing the incarceration of minors.

Lawmakers are calling for hitting price tag vandals with the full weight of the law. The cabinet recently decided to view price tag vandalism attacks as acts of terror so convicted persons face harsher punishment for their actions.

  1. And the parents have the chutzpah to complain that these animals are uncomfortable in jail??? Too bad. Hopefully they will be sentenced to a long jail term and the parents made to pay for the damage. This type of terrorism by right wing zealots only serves to provoke more actions by the Palestinians, who don’t need an excuse to attack yidden and yiddeshe mosdos. However by attacking Christian gravesites, they have committed a big chilul hashem since its assur to desecrate ANY kever, yid or goyishe.

  2. you neednt be too pig hearted mr godolhadorah, last time I visited ein gedi with my wife, we returned to our car to find that the local arabs had broken the lock, taken our phones and credit card and more. that’s standard- it didn’t become the headlines. they don’t need to be provoked to continue their choice of lifestyle.

  3. YET- IF YOU LEFT YOUR CELL PHONES AND CREDIT CARDS IN YOUR CAR YOU GOT WHAT YOU DESERVED. WOULD YOU DO THAT IN A BIG CITY IN THE STATES? WHY WOULD YOU THINK ISRAEL IS ANY DIFFERENT.
