Much has occurred since the March 6, 2008 shooting attack in Yerushalayim’s Merkaz HaRav Yeshiva and despite the recommendation of Public Security Minister Avi Dichter to destroy the Jabel Mukaber home of the terrorist, most people assumed this would never occur. Even calls to seal off a portion of the family home, the area where Alla Abu-Dehin lived, were rejected. Since that time, the family of the Israeli Arab who murdered eight students continues to live in the Jerusalem neighborhood.
It now appears that what could not be accomplished by security agencies may indeed be accomplished by Jerusalem City Hall. City inspectors using aerial photos learned that the home in which the terrorist resided is significant larger than the record shows, pointing to illegal construction to the tune of about 300 square meters, an area larger than most Jerusalem homes.
City inspectors on Monday visited the home as City Hall takes steps to seal the illegal portion of the home. This is a first sign that the illegal portion will either be sealed off or destroyed, possibly accomplishing what Minister Dichter set out to do months ago but for a different reason.
