Israel Offers Kuntar for Release of Regev and Goldwasser

goldwasser regev.jpgIsrael has sent a message to Hizbullah via Germany, offering to release four Lebanese terrorists in exchange for IDF soldiers Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser. Heading the list is convicted terrorist Samir Kuntar. Israel is also willing to release the bodies of ten terrorists.

Kuntar and the others on the list were sought by Hizbullah before the last war, but many feel that now, with Israel showing weakness, the terror organization is unlikely to accept the unprecedented offer. Others feel that the timing for Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah is critical – explaining the terrorist leader is desperate to show Lebanese citizens some progress, something that can support his ongoing thirst for power.

Nasrallah’s words were played at a rally in Beirut on Monday marking eight years since IDF forces withdraw from the security zone in southern Lebanon. The terrorist leader announced the brothers will soon return home.

Former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon stated Kuntar will never see the light of day, rejecting earlier Hizbullah demands for his release, but the government now appears ready to deal in the hope of bringing home the two soldiers who were abducted in July 2006, leading to the Second Lebanon War.

Kuntar is responsible for the murder of four members of the Hassan family in Nahariya in 1979.

Proponents of the reported deal also feel if accepted by Hizbullah, it would propel the PA-Israeli track forward – giving a badly-needed boost to peace-making efforts in the region.

Since the announcement of the report, there has been no reaction from the family of Ron Arad, the IAF navigator that has been in captivity since 1986.

Family members of Eldad and Goldwasser stated on Monday night that since their sons have been abducted they have no credible information regarding their condition, adding their basic rights have disappeared since they were taken captive.

Despite repeated requests, Hizbullah has not permitted the International Red Cross to visit the two soldiers.

NOTE: Perhaps the most disturbing news is the fact the terrorist organization is only demanding the release of the four terrorists and ten bodies. This unfortunately signals that Goldwasser and Regev are not alive, for if they were, Hizbullah would not settle for such a deal.

  1. How can anyone go on with their day after reading that note at the end?!?!
Our hearts go out to all the mothers, of all soldies, who have lived to with these realities, or their potential everyday.
I have no opinion on what’s going on with R. Ronsky of the IDF, but this should be enough to make everyone rethink before they bash the DF

  2. Samir Kuntar is a monster who should rot in jail until he rots for all eternity! He murdered an Israeli policeman and then shot Mr. Haran in front of his four year old daughter’s eyes before bashing the toddler’s skull with his gun, and he is responsible for the accidental suffocation of the Haran’s two year old daughter while she and her mother were hiding. Mrs. Haran survived the attack, and she has to put up with this political garbage.

For Israel to even broach the possibility of releasing Kuntar is to demonstrate just how little Israel cares about its citizens. The mere possibility of freedom for such lowlifes gives the terrorists an additional incentive to kidnap Israelis, hoping they will capture bargaining chips.
