Trump won the nomination in 2016 in a field of 17, many who were far more conservative, especially Ted Cruz. You are assuming, for whatever reason, that there is a large population that wants someone more conservative, but it was not borne out by the last election. It is not clear why there are Republicans who opposed Trump so much when he has carried out agenda items that should please Republicans, but be it as it may they hate him. Sadly there is little appreciation for the good things Trump has done but instead focus on ridiculous things like his tweeting. But he clearly loves America and is up against the Left, which clearly doesn’t and want to turn into a socialist country. Most of all, as long as president is an incumbent, it impossible for anyone in his party to successfully challenge him for the nomination
