Con artists on Wednesday apparently hacked into the Twitter accounts of technology moguls, politicians and major companies in an apparent bitcoin scam.
The ruse included bogus tweets from Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Mike Bloomberg and a number of tech billionaires including Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The fake tweets offered to send $2,000 for every $1,000 sent to a bitcoin address.
Twitter put out a statement noting that it was aware of a “security incident impacting accounts on Twitter.” The company said it is investigating and working to fix it, and promised an update shortly.
Bezos, Gates and Musk are among the 10 richest people in the world, with tens of millions of followers on Twitter.
The apparently fake tweets were all quickly deleted.

Did anyone send the money?

You can check that BTC address on an Explorer. L’meisah that address was only created yesterday and has seen about 380 transactions so far (not sure how many deposits and how many withdrawals, but I could check), but in total over time has received about 12.8 BTC which is about 118,560.44 USD. Most people only tried sending in small amounts.
(I’ve never used twitter and don’t know the full extent of the scam message, but I don’t know how those who were sending their Bitcoins in expected to get their paybacks in return.)
I don’t know buy out begs the question: Biden can’t even protect his Twitter account password, how safe can he keep the country?
I’m sure this was just a science project to determine who has the most gullible followers. Did they also hack the president’s account?
Apparently several hundred gullible ndividuals did send in the money. I’m 100 percent certain none of them were CR posters since they are universally too savy to fall for such an obvious scam. More to the point, most wouldn’t ever respond favorably to any solicitation from most of those high profile hacked accounts (except perhaps for Kanye West and Elon Musk).
