French cosmetics giant L’Oreal said Saturday that it will remove words like “whitening” from its skin care products, a move that comes amid global protests against racism sparked by the death of George Floyd in the United States.
The company said in a statement Saturday that it “has decided to remove the words white/whitening, fair/fairness, light/lightening from all its skin evening products.”
L’Oreal’s decision follows a similar move by Anglo-Dutch firm Unilever on Thursday. It is among a number of companies that have been the target of criticism in the wake of Floyd’s death following his arrest in Minneapolis.
Earlier this month, L’Oreal tweeted that that it “stands in solidarity with the Black community and against injustice of any kind. … Speaking out is worth it.” The post drew a negative reaction from people who see the company’s business model and advertising as focused on white consumers.

On the other hand, products such as “White-Out” are sure to do very well…
Where can I purchase teeth blackening products? I want to show my support for BLM.
Imagine how appealing “blackening” would sound.
Will they replace it with blackening? Will we still be able to buy tooth whitening products? Will the BlackBerry phone become popular once again? Will the Sun and Daylight also become taboo?
Remember when laundry detergents advertised, “Makes whites whiter, makes coloreds brighter”? Maybe that could now be the motto of a university.
The world has gone nuts!!!
The slippery slop (I left out the e intentionally) is only going to get much much worse. I give it a year or two perhaps less that you won’t be able to use word like he or she, Even mother, father would be off limits so we shouldn’t offend the menuvalim community. Languages that are gender based like Hebrew will can be banned. Hashem yirachem.
People are so retarded.
Of course the company’s business model and advertising are focused on white consumers. That is who their target market is. The world is going through a plague of insanity. The only question is will this insanity or COVID-19 last longer?
Maybe in tribute to the late great George, these companies should start advertising all of their products priced at only one forged $20 bill ……
This product is not for “whitening” anything, it’s for skin clarity and pimple reduction. Calling reducing pimples “white” is a bit racist, don’t you think?
From now on: You will not be allowed to utter a word about the color of SNOW… or ‘white chocolate’… or bulbs cannot advertise under the words ‘white light’… dairy products will no longer be white or even yellow..ALOT of things are about to get REALLY REALLY WEIRD!
@Aymdock. No. It’s not racist because it has nothing to do with race! It is childish and transparent virtue-signalling.
I won’t put it past these crazy people to change the flag to red, black and blue.
Jerusalem observer: to set the record straight, the $20.00 bill was real, not counterfeit. This situation evolved tragically based on a suspicion of counterfeit.
Look at the bright side – there won’t be any more blackouts.
Go woke, go broke. I guess we have to cancel everything now. America is looking more like a joke every passing day
Clearly, none of you understand the history of colorism and skin bleaching in black, Middle Eastern, and Indian cultures. Those with darker skin would often use bleach, or other harmful chemicals to lighten and their skin and look more Caucasian and be treated better. That’s why the term “whitening” is being removed.
