A sign calling on “Bas Yisrael” to please wear modest attire was displayed in Maale Adumim for a very short time before it was taken down. Unlike Yerushalayim and other areas, Maale Adumim residents are not accustomed to such signs. While the sign was not on display for long, it was sufficient to elicit the concerns of a city councilman, who fears it may be the beginning of a new trend, or worse, lead to confrontations surrounding new religious demands.
Councilman Boris Grossman was quick to respond, releasing a statement that he fears signs such as the one removed may lead to “religious war” in the city. He explains that signs like this one often begin politely, asking people to comply but they quickly change tone to commands, demanding compliance. “We have seen similar occurrences in other non-frum areas” he explains, worried Maale Adumim may become too modest or frum.

It’s too bad that some folks don’t know to dress modestly without reminders.
