According to reports from ZAKA officials, the MIRS communications units of hundreds of volunteers went dead as of Sunday morning. The reason given is the growing fiscal crisis in the organization, which is finding itself with a constant critical cash flow shortage. As a result, hundreds of volunteers may not be summoned in the event ZAKA’s services are required.
When asked to comment by “Chadrei Chadarim” the organization’s founder Yehuda Meshi-Zahav was quoted as saying, “It’s not my problem. Address it to Dudi Zilbershlag,” the organizations operating manager. Meshi-Zahav explained his responsibilities in the organizational framework do not include fundraising or business issues. Zilbershlag was not available for comment.
ZAKA spokesman Chaim Weingarten did confirm the accuracy of the report but declined to confirm that fiscal problems were the cause, stating the reason is an internal matter.
