Security Breach at Ben-Gurion Airport Results in Gunfire & Delays


1552342-18Two PA (Palestinian Authority) residents drove a stolen truck and crashed the entrance to Ben-Gurion International Airport during the night. The truck almost ran over one of the security agents, who fired at the truck’s tires. The truck came to a halt near Terminal 3 and the occupants, residents of Kalkilye and Jenin fled on foot. They were apprehended.

The preliminary investigation shows the security agents manning the inspection booth at the entrance to the airport followed protocol. As soon as the truck crashed the main entrance to the airport security agents declared a breach and emergency protocol went into effect. All flights were halted and the airport moved to a security state-of-emergency. A bomb demolition team arrived a short time later to inspect the truck to make certain it was not laden with explosives.

The incident occurred at about 03:30. As security personnel moved to emergency status roadblocks were set up instantly to block access to Terminal 3, the airport’s main passenger terminal. The truck continued driving at excessive speed and crashed a second roadblock as it tried to run over a security agent. The truck was stopped about 200 meters from the terminal.

B’chasdei Hashem there were no injuries but a number of flights were delayed as a result.

Police believe the car thieves may have lost their way and became alarmed when gunfire was directed at them, causing them to flee.

  1. Its pathetic that the truck got that close! 200 meters! The road from the entrance to terminal 3 is at least a few Kilometers! That was just two arabs in a truck. Had they had more trucks and weapons they would have easily gotten to the terminal. Despite all of airport security we see that nothing can protect us except Hashem.
