NYC Brings Back Old Voting Machines For Primary

voteVoters in the upcoming primary will decide who gets to run for New York City’s leadership positions.

They’ll be making those choices for the city’s future by going back to its past.

For the election on Sept. 10, and a possible run-off on Oct. 1, votes will be cast on old mechanical lever machines.

The state had switched to optical scanners in 2010. But logistical issues developed while getting the scanners ready for the upcoming election.

So the city’s Board of Elections got permission from the state Legislature and Gov. Andrew Cuomo to use the lever machines.

Critics are concerned the move could cause confusion among voters and poll workers.
