Mikve Constructed in Secular Shomron Community


mikBaruch Hashem a mikve was established in the secular Shomron community of Chinanit, at the behest of community residents. The community is not home to shomer Shabbos residents, but nonetheless, B”H, about a year ago residents decided it would be nice to have a mikve in the community.

The residents turned to the Taharas Habayis organization for assistance. The organization accepted the challenge and with Siyata Dishmaya raised the funds and built the mikve in a period of eight months.

Organization officials were responsible for overseeing the construction, which they explain complies with the most stringent Halachic demands as well as succeeding in building a modern attractive structure that will be accepted by residents. Officials add the construction of a mikve is such a community has special significance for them and they were pleased to play such a vital role in its establishment.

  1. Since when does one have to be shomer Shabbos to want to follow taharas hamishpacha. Many conservative shuls in the U.S. have mikvahs and most of their tzibur drive to shul.

  2. i wish we could start a trend where instead of secular we say less observant or unobservant community

    or in this article not shomer shabbos

  3. The one thing you learn very quickly in Israel, is not to judge a book by its cover. Many Chiloni suprise you with their level of spirituality. They may not have the knowledge base, due to lack of a Torah education, but they care.

    Don’t confuse most of them with the lunatic left. You hear, B”H or Shabbat Shalom from them often. We should not denegrade or give up on them.

  4. #1 You have a good point (for a change), but these chiloni communities in Israel adamantly refused anything religious all the years. If they baruch Hashem allow a mikva in their community, it’s good news, they’re b”H starting to get there.

  5. #6. Your a bit mistaken. Most Chilonim may not want to be Frum, but the attitude in general is/was, that whatever they keep religious wise, they want authentic.

    Even going back to the original “Who is a Jew” issue. The reform took Chiloni Knesset members on a tour of their “Temples.” When the Knesset members returned to Israel, they said, “We don’t know what religion they are practicing, but its not Judaism.”

    In those days most Chilonim atleast knew the difference and defeated the law.
