Israel;s Health Ministry’s Expensive Droid App

droidIsrael’s Ministry of Health panicked critics exclaim, for Director-General Prof. Roni Gamzu authorized spending 118,000 NIS to build an android application permitting parents to locate the nearest Tipat Chalav well child clinic. The app is available via Google Play but it is not attracting the masses. Critics explain that all the application does is provide one with the location of the nearest clinic and its operating hours, information that has been available via the ministry’s website.

The critics feel Gamzu may have been well-intentioned but the ministry got ripped off for the app does nothing more than a quick visit to the ministry website. Gamzu’s aides explain that a decision had to be made as the nation embarks on the oral polio booster vaccination program and they felt the risks posed by the current situation outweighed all else, hence the decision to pay for developing the application very quickly.
