“We are not totally inactive” stated MK Avigdor Lieberman on Thursday, 16 Elul 5773. The chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee explained that Israel is not “just standing at the side”, obviously declining to detail just what Israel is doing in response to the violence in Syria.
Lieberman added that it is known that some of the wounded from the ongoing civil war continue to receive care in Israeli hospitals, adding Israel has been active in other ways as well. He explained that Israel is affected by the ongoing war, and Israel has to address her own security concerns.
The MKs statements come amid the bewilderment of many as reports clearly state over 1,000 people were killed on Wednesday as a result of Bashar al-Assad using chemical weapons against his foes. While the White House warned Syria against the use of chemical weapons, the US, UN and EU make more noise when an IDF soldier mistakenly injures an Arab with a rubber bullet than when the Syrian ruler murders 1,200 civilians.
