Getting Yerushalayim Ready for Tishrei


kosRabbi Chaim Miller, a veteran prominent chareidi askan and head of the Movement for Jerusalem and its Citizens is quite busy during these days before Rosh Hashanah. Miller is working to clean up chareidi areas before the Tishrei Yomim Tovim begin. He is also meeting with city and police officials, addressing matters of safety and security in those areas too.

He is asking to temporarily complete and close streets in area improvement projects such as the one in Geula. As the city replaces water main pipes and other infrastructure, it is tearing up streets and sidewalks. Miller is working to have open areas closed in time for Yomtov and to hold off beginning any new areas.

Other items on his agenda include lighting sewage, and addressing garbage pickup with a three-day Rosh Hashanah ahead. He calls on residents to cooperate by placing garbage in appropriate bags during Yomtov to avoid an unpleasant situation on the streets that may chas v’sholom lead to a health hazard.

Regarding public transportation, Miller advises visitors and residents of the capital to use buses and the light rail and avoid private vehicles as much as possible. He is working to have the relevant agencies install additional benches and shade roofs on existing bus stops around the city.
