With municipal elections a few short months away, Beit Shemesh Mayor Rav Moshe Abutbul on Wednesday, 8 Elul 5773 visited the Belzer Rebbe Shlita, in Yerushalayim.
Abutbul, the incumbent Shas mayor in the city, faces significant efforts to unseat him by the dati leumi community. Abutbul was received warmly by the rebbe, who gave him a bracha as well. The rebbe maintains a close relationship with Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita. In his bracha to the mayor the rebbe said “לקדש שם שמים וכלל הציבור החרדי יתאחדו בתמיכה בו באחדות מלאה”.

Fix up your act, MR. MAYOR and note that Bet Shemesh is a large metropolises with a diverse population.
Mayor Rav Moshe Abutbul is expected to win by a nice margin. He was able to win the last election Chareidi population was a smaller percentage than today. Today the Chareidi and Sephardic electorate constitutes a significant majority of Beit Shemesh voters.

Please if you don’t like him do it the right way and vote him out. Now if you and the diverse population can’t because the Chareidi population is the majority then just to bad. The city belongs to the voting majority. You know that famous saying if you can’t fight them join them. You still have an option to move yourself out from there.
Bklynmom—- I like your post…
A Mayor of a city is just that a Mayor of a CITY not of ONE group only. In order for cities to grow and flourish, a competent Mayor must service all sectors.
2 & 3, Many Charedi voters of Bet Shemesh have had enough of politics, dirty streets, wrecked parks and zero culture activities (swimming) for their children. People have started to vote with their heads and not just their hearts.
Ever heard of something called tyrany of the majority?
The mayor should do his job properly and Daven to Hashem for succeed. He shouldn’t misuse Gedolim for political purposes. If he wants a Bracha, which is legitimate, he should go privately and not make it a public event in order to get headlines.
Actually the charadi population is between 40% to 45% this figure also includes charadi light who may not vote for Abutbul.
Abutbul won the last election because the non-charadi vote was split. This time the noncharadi are uniting around one canidate.
He could still wins if the charadim are active in getting to the voting polls.
It is to early to predict but it can go either way.

The city doesn’t “belong” to the majority, the majority sets the general tone but they still have to be considerate of the minorities and provide for them too.
